Having worked as a bespoke curtain maker for the past twenty years, I have built up a huge collection of high end fabrics that I am now turning into unique and beautifully made handcrafted collections of cushion covers and other fabric items that will have longevity through professional construction and a close attention to detail.
I am experienced with working closely with clients and interior designers to meet specific briefs so whether you are an individual looking to add a personal touch to your home, an interior designer seeking unique pieces for a project, or anyone in between, I am here to collaborate with you. Together, we will create something that not only meets your specific needs but also adds a touch of elegance and uniqueness to your space.

I make wheel-thrown porcelain ceramics with an aesthetic influenced by
mid-twentieth century modernist design. My work is characterised by
simple modern forms with minimal geometrical decorative detail. I’m
aiming for a pared-down functional elegance, with space for the quirks
and idiosyncrasies of the handmade. Above all, I want my pieces to be a
joy to use in everyday domestic routines.
 
The rest of the time I’m an inner London GP and father of three. In 2013 I
took a pottery beginners’ course with the brilliant Stuart Carey and
became one of the first members of Turning Earth open access studio in
East London. I started off spending a few hours a week making pots as a
midlife hobby, quickly discovering great personal rewards in the process,
the product and the community of potters, both local and virtual.
 
Since then, making ceramics has figured increasingly prominently in my
life, until in late 2019 I set up my own studio in my home in Hackney,
reducing my working week to 3 days. I’m interested in the pursuit of a
sustainable work-life balance and the ways in which creativity can
contribute to wellbeing, particularly for the middle-aged hobbyist! I find the
making process profoundly absorbing and enriching and hope this comes
across in my work.

Star Apple is the home of beautiful children’s jigsaw puzzles and gifts.

Star Apple was born when Carol, Founder and Chairman, struggled to find a  jigsaw puzzle for her infant son and granddaughter that represented their culture and looked beautiful. 

Knowing the benefits of jigsaw puzzles for children, she wanted to make a difference.

The brand pays homage to her late mum, Rose Star. Star Apple was one of her  favourite fruits, and some jigsaws are named after family members.

Representation and giving is at the heart of their vision.

Their long-term goal is to give away a jigsaw with every purchase to a children's charity, creating a fresh way for customers to give back and make a positive impact in education and mental health.

Their handcrafted African inspired lampshades are bold, colourful & unique as well as our best-sellers. We also sell other products like cushions, mini lampshade fairy lights, coasters, candle holders, Christmas tree hanging ornaments, notebooks/sketchbooks and more. 

Detola and Geek also run lampshade making workshops and can be held at   at your chosen venue.
